Abstract

The present study aimed to analyze the contributions offered by research on rhythmic gymnastics to the development of gross motor skills in Latin America during the period 2014 2024. To achieve this general objective, two specific objectives were established: to identify the types of contributions present in these studies and to analyze them, which allowed for a critical systematization of the available academic evidence. Using a qualitative documentary methodological approach, an exhaustive review of twenty scientific and academic sources was conducted. These sources were obtained from university repositories and specialized academic databases, including Dialnet, Alicia, and Redalyc. The selection of studies was based on criteria of thematic relevance, currency (2014–2024), accessibility, and a pedagogical focus related to rhythmic gymnastics and motor development in school contexts. Regarding the results, Axis 1 comprised 65% of the studies analyzed and focused on the specific contributions that rhythmic gymnastics provides to the development of gross motor skills. Among the main findings, it was evident that the systematic practice of this discipline promotes the development of skills such as general dynamic coordination, laterality, balance, spatial orientation, agility, and postural control. These improvements are attributed to the integration of rhythmic movement, music, body expression, and structured exercises, positioning rhythmic gymnastics as an effective methodological strategy for enhancing psychomotor competencies from early childhood through adolescence. Axis 2, which accounted for the remaining 35% of the studies, addressed the contributions of rhythmic gymnastics from an integral and formative perspective. The results show that, beyond specific motor benefits, this discipline promotes active participation, motivation, creative expression, body discipline, and inclusion, contributing to the overall development of students. Additionally, several studies highlight the need to strengthen teacher training in this area and emphasize the importance of integrating rhythmic gymnastics transversally and inclusively within the school curriculum.
