Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine the effectiveness of symbolic play as a methodological strategy to improve oral language in 5-year-old children of the I.E. 00479 “Juan Clímaco Vela Reyes” from Moyobamba, during the year 2025. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design was used, forming two study groups: one experimental and one control, with 25 students each. At the end of the intervention, the post-test results showed a notable improvement in the experimental group. Specifically, 44% of the students achieved scores between 17 and 19, and 28% between 15 and 17. In contrast, the control group obtained predominantly lower scores: 36% between 9 and 11 and 36% between 11 and 13, with no cases recorded in the higher ranges. The arithmetic mean of the experimental group was 16.35 compared to 11.64 for the control group. The Mann-Whitney U test showed statistically significant differences between both groups, demonstrating the effectiveness of the applied strategy. It is concluded that symbolic play favors the development of oral language, by stimulating expression, verbal fluency and communicative interaction. Its systematic implementation in the pedagogical planning of the initial level is recommended.
